To avoid the above issue, you need a professional photo backup application. What's more, it will be upset if those photos get lost due to your device broken or stolen. With the quantity of photos in Smartphone and computer increases gradually, the internal storage space gets smaller, then you have to delete some old photos to free up the space. If your computer stucks completely and you can't do anything on it even though you have tried manually closing the computer, you have to cut off its power supply by disconnecting the power cable or pull out the battery.Taking photos are becoming more and more popular around the world. This method does not allow reliable estimation of species densities (Curtis, 1980 Lang, 2000). Pitfall traps can be used to generate an estimate of “activity density,” that is, the abundance of each species as a reflection of its activity during the sampling period and the density of the population in the sampled habitat. This method is particularly advantageous for the capture of epigaeic macro- and megafauna with islet-like dispersion and more pronounced differences in circadian activity (Stašiov, 2015). Pitfall traps are simple to use, efficient, and inexpensive and allow for the continuous collection of specimens, including night foragers, thus overcoming interspecific differences in circadian activity rhythms (Koivula et al., 2003 Southwood, 1978 Törmälä, 1982 Ward et al., 2001). It is now a well-established and commonly used quantitative method of zoocoenosis surveys, including harvestman and millipede communities (Štrobl et al., 2019). Pitfall trapping was first used for the research of epigaeic fauna by Dahl ( 1896) and was further developed after the publication of Barber ( 1931) and Stammer ( 1948). Data obtained by pitfall trapping in various studies also have limited comparability (Brown & Matthews, 2016). The ability to make meaningful comparisons of the results of studies is severely hampered by great variation in the design of the sampling equipment and how it is used (Brown & Matthews, 2016 Dornelas et al., 2014 Fischer et al., 2010 Magurran et al., 2010). However, there might be significant constraints in the analysis of long-term and spatially large data, especially when the methodology used differs (Gotelli & Colwell, 2001, 2011). Understanding changes in global biodiversity patterns requires large-scale, long-term monitoring. However, the disadvantage of formaldehyde is its toxicity. Our results revealed that the combination of larger traps ( d = 5 and 12 cm) and formaldehyde was most effective in the capture of both studied groups. By analyzing the differences in the body sizes of the studied arthropods in relation to the trap diameter and fluid, we found that larger traps, as well as traps filled with NaCl solution, captured larger harvestmen more frequently than the other trap types. The same effect was observed for harvestmen species richness, whereas the medium traps ( d = 5 cm) captured the highest mean activity of harvestmen. Large ( d = 12 cm) and medium (5 cm) traps captured significantly more millipede species and individuals than the small-sized traps (3 cm). We sampled 1,488 individuals representing 11 harvestmen species and 881 individuals representing 11 millipede species. Altogether, 90 traps representing nine combinations of trap diameters and fixing fluid were placed on a mown meadow in spring and autumn intervals for a total of 45 days. We used pitfall traps with three different diameters: 3 cm, 5 cm, and 12 cm, filled with three types of fixing fluids (saturated fluid of NaCl, 10:1 mixture of 70% ethanol and glycerol and 4% formaldehyde). We evaluated the effects of the trap diameter, the fixing fluid, and their combination on the capture efficacy for harvestmen (Opiliones) and millipedes (Diplopoda). Despite being frequently used, the standardization of this method is problematic due to the large range of combinations of the individual parameters of pitfall traps with varying efficacy under different environmental conditions. Pitfall trapping is one of the standard methods used for the capture of ground-active arthropod groups. Easy to Use – Arnold has fewer knobs to fiddle with and that’s something I appreciate. It’s been the go-to for feature films for over 15 years. High Quality – There is a reason Arnold is synonymous with quality.Feature Rich – The most feature-rich renderer in its class matched by one of the best plugins out there. It’s also widely supported on cloud-based render farms like Pixel Plow. Versatile – The most versatile out of the three boasting CPU and GPU versions, works both on Mac and PC, and even includes a robust Toon system.Image by Kakela Studios via Autodesk Strengths: Monthly Price – $45 via Autodesk e-Store.Annual Price – $630 (floating) via Toolfarm.Annual Price – $360 (locked) via Toolfarm.Compatibility – CPU: Mac/PC GPU: PC and Nvidia GPUs only. This renderer has been built around rock-solid features and uncompromised quality. It’s also been used in film production for over fifteen years. In this scenario, we are going to focus on the render engines as they work inside Cinema 4D.Īrnold is best known for being the built-in renderer for Autodesk 3D applications. These render engines support most major 3D platforms (Cinema 4D, Maya, 3ds Max, Houdini, etc) and you can use them between these apps with a proper license. In this post, we are going to focus on the big three, Arnold, Redshift, and Octane. Especially because all of the major 3D DCCs ship with a production-ready renderer.Īside from the Standard/Physical render engines that come with Cinema 4D, there are dozens of third-party renderers for C4D and the other 3D applications. Though it’s still sold separately and not included without the upgrade to Maxon One, so that is a bit odd. Instead, Maxon is banking on Redshift as their future in rendering. Pro Render has been dropped from Cinema 4D as of version R23 and the native Physical Renderer is no longer being developed. Is it purely speed? Versatility? The look it delivers? Stability? There are so many criteria to consider, I suggest making your own pro-con list and see which one rises to the top. I encourage you to map out what you value in a renderer. You need to do your homework, download the trial versions of all three and take them for a test drive. As always, things change, so check back here once in a while if you keep tabs on what I’m using in my daily workflow. I was really hoping their purchase by Maxon would have led to tighter integration, but it hasn’t. Redshift has fallen out of favor a bit for me. The stability improvements Otoy has made since 2020.2 have me back on the Octane train. Since the last time I updated this article, I’ve switched to mostly an Arnold GPU + Octane workflow. UPDATE: For those who have read this article in the past, you may have noticed a big change here. There is a full breakdown of my thoughts below if you really want to dig in. Octane is fast as hell and looks gorgeous (especially with an ACES workflow). Arnold is versatile, rock-solid, feature-packed and creates photoreal images with ease. So What’s the deal, Chad? What should I use? Well, I recommend to everyone the same two I use on a daily basis. Below you’ll hear my thoughts on what I consider the big three render engines, Arnold, Octane, and Redshift. So, I recently collected all my thoughts and decided to update my ideas on rendering in Cinema 4D (my favorite 3D application). I’ve been doing 3D professionally for over twenty-five years, built pipelines, ran jobs (large and small), creative directed at several award-winning studios, and during that time, I’ve used MANY different render engines. “What renderer should I use? Which one do you like the best?” Ok, so here’s my answer… It’s the number one question artists ask me. I’ve never been disappointed in their sound. I’ve seen Jay Siegel and the Tokens a number of times (At least 5 or 6 in the last 3 years since I started actively attending oldies concerts as time and money has permitted me, I am only 26 after all, and work full time for a living). Top photo left to right- Jay Traynor, Jay Siegel, and Bill Reidīottom photo Hank Medress, Jay Siegel, Phil and Mitch Margo Jay changed the melody to make the lyric fit the meter … and the rest is history!”įOR THE TOURING SCHEDULE OF JAY SIEGEL AND THE NEW TOKENS VISIT THEIR WEBSITE When we came to the recording session, they handed Jay the lyric as he was about to go on microphone. Hugo and Luigi said they wanted to put a lyric to it. They said, “That’s a hit! What does the lyric mean?” We told them Jay had checked with the African consulate and it was about a lion hunt, etc. Then they asked if we had anything else? I said there’s a song we sing on the beach. First we played them our original songs, but they weren’t very interested. Hank continued, “We had an audition with Hugo and Luigi at RCA. He was a big Pete Seeger fan and he loved his version of ‘Wimoweh’.” Jay Siegel was the one who turned us on to that song. That was the song we used to sing on street corners. I was riding the subway home to Brighton Beach, some lady overhears me talking about the record we just made, says she and her son have a record company … they release it and we have our first hit! On that same session, we recorded ‘Wimoweh’, before it became ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’. I borrowed $60 and we made a demo of the song. Right away we all started writing songs together, which included ‘Tonight I Fell In Love’. I went down to Ocean Parkway to check them out. When I interviewed Hank Medress, for Spectropop, just before he passed away, I asked him how the group got together and how they came to record “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” Hank said, “I knew Jay Siegel from school, and Neil Sedaka, who was still halfway in our group, thought Jay sang great! Then I heard about these two brothers, Phil and Mitch Margo. Although I never got a single cut with any of their artists I enjoyed playing material for them and engaging in the knock hockey tournaments they held in their offices at 1697 Broadway. The original group, Hank Medress, Jay, Phil, and Mitch Margo in addition to making hit records themselves produced classic hits for other artists, The Chiffons (“He’s So Fine”, “One Fine Day”) Tony Orlando and Dawn (“Knock Three Times”, “Candida”). I talked to my old friend Jay a few days ago, and was amazed when he told me that he hasn’t lost the stratospheric top notes in his vocal range, which is probably why i guess Jay Siegel and the New Tokens do so incredibly well on the oldies circuit…they sound like the hit records! One of the defining records of the sixties that is still so fresh it could have been recorded yesterday. ' Wimoweh' only to find myself pondering the question of whether pouring a blastocyst down the drain of a laboratory sink at a fertility center is abortion. It’s hard to believe that it’s been 50 years when we first heard “THE LION SLEEPS TONIGHT” and the incredible falsetto of Jay Siegel of the Tokens. I first became aware of it with Karl Denver's version renamed " Wimoweh". When I heard the song ' Wimoweh' on a compliation from the folk group The Spinners at the age of ten I thought it was their own composition. The song has since then been reworked and its title changed to " Wimoweh" in 1951/2 by Pete Seeger and into It became known as " Wimoweh" and rose to number six on the United States music charts.Īn American music publishing house has offered to pay all future royalties on the song " Wimoweh" to the family of its South African author, lawyers for the late composer Solomon Linda said on Monday. In 1961 a group of young American musicians called The Tokens sang " Wimoweh" with some English lyrics added to make a song called "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," which became an international number-one hit. Mbube, in case you don't know, is what got turned into 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' when Pete Seeger misheard the singers and wrote out ' Wimoweh'.Īlso, I think the original lyric is 'dead,' not 'sleeping' Michael Sigman: 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' at 50: A Song for the Ages By the '50s, it had become a repertoire staple under the title " Wimoweh" for Pete Seeger and his hugely successful folk group The Weavers.
